Dow Hits Over 13,000 (AGAIN)

Filed Under (Money) by Randy Bragg

The Dow went over 13,000 again as the Federal Reserve hints that it might lower interest rates. Last night I was telling my wife that it is time for a recession; America has invested in companies that are full of liquid for way to long.

Gambling For Dollars

Where’s the safest place to invest my money in these troubled times? Have you heard the expression don’t put your all of your eggs in one basket? This is good when you have a booming economy, right now it might be a 75, 30 split when dividing my eggs. With the stock market, it truly is a gamble. If you invest in something that suddenly has a problem, that stock is surely to go down. You might be thinking that it takes a risk to get a great reward, this is true. When you invest wisely, wisely meaning that you do your homework, you can take a risk based upon calculated studies. That is different than leaving all your money in a stock that has given you indications of falling returns.

Safe Haven For My Money

So I take 70% of my eggs and take them to a safe place, where is that? CD’s give a decent return, with out all the risk; Treasury Bonds give some safety as well. Go to your bank and ask them what some investment options they offer are and what is the percentage it will return over the years you want to invest.

Money To Burn

When times are good this is when you can put your money in some high risk investments and either watch them grow or watch your money go up in smoke. This is the nature of the beast.

Page Rank Doesn’t Pay The Bills

Filed Under (Blogging Advice) by Randy Bragg

Have you finally reached above a 0 in PR? Well that hit for me and still I am looking for the silver lining in the clouds. If you thought that people would flock to your site because your Page Rank is higher, your wrong.  I could give you a list of blogs that live on their page rank, but I won’t. Not going to waste my time on that, instead I will let you in on a little secret about page rank. No matter what page rank you are, you still have to pull in the readers.

How Do I get Readers

Getting people to read your articles takes a lot of work. You need to get yourself into some of the blogging communities.

·        mybloglog.PNG

·        technorati.png

There are many blogging communities that you can enroll in and start becoming part of a large group of people that have the blogging virus like you do.

Rich Content

You need to write articles that have rich content and are worth the reader’s time. If you come to a place where you are having writers block than you need to take a break from reading and write an article a week. If your article is well written it is worth the reader’s time, then they will come back. Remember who you are writing to, if it you are trying to teach people something, don’t skip any steps and explain things in a way where everyone can understand.

The Excited Southerner

My wife would say this is me when I am trying to help her with a computer problem. This is when I thank God for a very understanding wife and give her lots of kisses for staying with me, even when I get computer crazy and click so fast that she can’t even see what I am doing. Try and not go way over everyone’s head when trying to teach them something you are good at.

Fonts For Your Blog

Filed Under (Blogging Advice) by Randy Bragg

Yes the dream is to have people reading my articles with their morning coffee. Reading takes a toll on the eyes so you have to make sure that you have your site set up for the reader.

Contrast
You need to think about what is best for the reader when it comes to staring at the screen for a long period of time. I myself have woke up with terrible headaches from looking at some sites that where hard to read. Find a background color goes good with the color of the font.

Font
Decide what you are going to use on your site, small fonts or big fonts. The small font is hard to read, yes it looks professional, but it will be hard to read. The bigger fonts are easier to read and usually do not turn off the reader, even though you think it might look childish.

Columns
Think about how hard it is going to be for them to find the content. Think about how other sites set their content up to be read. You don’t want your readers looking for your article like they are looking for a jigsaw puzzle. Make it easy to navigate from and they will come back for the ease of use of your site to get to the articles they want to read.

Connecting With The Readers

Filed Under (Blogging Advice) by Randy Bragg

- You have to find out what they want.
It has been almost a year writing for Voice of Bragg dot com and it has not been easy to find a niche to stay with. This part of my site will be dedicated to blogging only; http://www.voiceofbragg.com will be dedicated to helping people find Jesus Christ.

- Getting to your readers.
Last night I had a conversation with my wife and I told her that I need to find someone who wants to get in to it about a topic that we both find important. John Chow has been a focus of mine for the reason that he has a successful blog that aims at getting your dollars instead, my intent is to give 90% of my earnings back to the reader. Just think, the more money I make, the more cool stuff you get.

- Check your RSS feed.
Find out if people are reading what you write, go to where you feed is posting to and see how many people are reading your articles.

- Free stuff is always nice.
Giving away stuff does helps to keep people interested in coming back. Give cool stuff that your reader will like. If you give junk away than they have no reason to be excited about the free stuff you are giving away.

- Keep the content interesting.
Writing your own articles makes it more personnel and will put that nice twist that no one else will have. When writing an article that will keep them reading takes you doing some leg work to keep the content fresh and keep them coming back for the good stuff.

John Chow Hugs Google

Filed Under (Blogging Advice, Talk) by Randy Bragg

Guess John couldn’t handle the bad press when it comes to him standing up to Google. He has said many times his issues he has with Google and how he could live without them, I guess not. John wrote an article yesterday on how he wants to be friends with Google again, I think he misses their PR love. John has put all his eggs into Google’s PR basket. Hey John while your at it you might as well sell out and start talking about Britney Spears crouch shot, Paris saving the elephants, Logan drinking the night away, Brad and Angelina getting another baby, if your going to sell out John you might as well go big. Heck put up the famous Britney crouch shot pic that might get you some good PR John, or better yet let’s all go read about what he had for breakfast, or his latest bowl movement.

You might think I have it out for John Chow, this is not true, he has alot of good qualities and than there are some that make me scratch my head like an ape and grunt and wonder what the hell was he thinking. If you are reading this you probably have a blog and you know it takes a lot of work to get one of these off the ground, so when it comes to what he has done, yes I know it has taken a lot of work. Voice Of Bragg is PR3 with Google and it has taken me a lot of work just to get it there. There is no big secret and you can go to John Chows site and read how he did it and you are going to find that the only way to do it is to get off your tail and get it done.

The John Chow advertising guru has a nice site if you are looking to buy off on all his crap he is selling. Better advice is to go to a site that will offer advise without tiring to sell you all of their crap in their garage. Have I bought off on the John Chow garage sell, yes I have, I have learned tons from him, I also learned from him to do research on how to make your site better, and John it’s just to damn hard to get it from your site. Register here, sign up for this here, you want an arm to John?

Wordpress Blues

Filed Under (Blogging Advice) by Randy Bragg

This is my fourth Wordpress Theme and I am still feeling like there is something missing.  Going to some other sites I realize that it is important to have a well laid out site. People want to come to a site and get something from it. If they are coming for an article or for a service, they want to be able to get the service you advertise. Guess I am a little tired of sitting back and watching the big dog grow more popular for an article on what he ate for dinner or how much money he is making off of his reader’s. Just think if my site starts bringing in some serious cash, my intentions are to give back 80% to my reader. Getting the readers to come to me, that is the question.

John Chow Dinner Cost-So What!!!

Filed Under (Blogging Advice) by Randy Bragg

Guess when you get as big as John Chow you can talk about all the stuff you eat at dinner and draw a crowd to sit and read about it. John went to a blog convention in Las Vegas and came back with some interesting pictures. Hey John looks like dinner was pretty tasty. The whole blog world seems to be revolving around this man who the blogging world has gravitated to, yes even me. A reality show about John Chow and the money he is making off you and I. The tips and tricks on how to increase traffic and how he has given up on Google are some good reasons why I keep going. Just so I put it out there that I hate soap operas, but if I had to give a Grammy to one it would be John’s. From his dinners to his money making venture with Shoemoney to get all the RSS they could get, I mean traffic to their site that generates a better selling pitch for the advertising spots. Very nice, lets put it out there than, John Chow can give you all the advice in the world, it comes down to you getting off your tail and doing something about your blog. Yes I have read his PDF file on how he makes all his money off of his readers, very nice. Can he sit next to you and teach you how to make a favicon, write your articles for you, or get you PR from Google. Google has it out for him anyway, but no one seems to care. How does this play out for JohnChow the blogging machine, will his readers get tired of his drama and move on to another, will see, As The John Chow Turns.
