Next Election

Filed Under (Religion) by Pastor Al Weeks

40% of Americans claim to be Christians but of that number only about a third actually votes in any given election .  It is every Christian’s responsibility to serve the government that God places over him or her.  We do this in many ways, like not cheating on our taxes, or stopping at the stop sign and not rolling through.  In our country we are blessed with the opportunity to have a say in who leads us.  And yet we would rather watch Law and order then a presidential debate.

Here is a challenge; name five sports stars.  Now name five of our representatives in congress.  If you don’t vote then don’t complain when the wrong person wins.

I would like to encourage all who read this to be intentional in everything that you do.  Pray for our leaders and then vote for the one that most closely follows God and His views.  If we do this every time we vote then we will not be at fault when the wrong one wins.  Hitler only won the election by one vote.  Every voice counts no mater how small or large.  Let yours be heard!!!

True, there are many paths to destruction, but only one path to the one true living God. The answer is found in the (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth) Bible.

Some people like to believe that there is one mountain, God, and that all the religions of the world are just climbing up different sides to reach the top. This would work with most of the religions in the world today except Christianity. Christianity is one of the few religions that claims to have the only way to reach the top of the mountain that is God. Some claim that Christians are narrow minded and that Jesus Himself love the whole world and that he would not make that claim.Let me point to the words of Jesus: John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.(KJV) Either Jesus was and is the Son of the Living God or he was a raving lunatic. You can not have it both ways. If you feel that there are many paths and that leaders can take i would encourage you to name them. Should we take the Osuma Bin Ladin path (extream radical Muslim), how about the North Korean Atheist way. We could always elect a “I am God” kind of leader like Hitler. I am afraid that if we take God out of the equation and elect only those that seem to be “good” we will fall into the trap of the Israelites in the book of Judges when; Judges 17:6 In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.(KJV) That may sound good on the surface but if you read the rest of the story the people of Israel lost favor with God in doing this and then fell under the persecution of their enemies. You may sit there and say but that is not happening to us, we are not falling under any persecution. Aren’t We? Right now in the US of A the smallest percentage of voters are controling the laws that we live under and the way we live. Everything from forcing us to wear bicycle helmets every time we get on a bike to allowing same sex marriages. When I was growing up two things where a given in a boys life. One: if you wore a bike helmet you were going to get beat up. And two: if you were a boy you liked girls, even if you did not admit it in front of your friends. We have lost much.

Wow! I didn’t know that about Hitler.
The mayor race for my small town actually came to a tie. The candidates had agreed to a coin toss. However, after the toss, a mysterious missing absentee ballot (made by a person who had died by the election) showed up to support the loser of the toss (and former mayor).
My vote would have changed this.
